Like in nature, trees in a forest don&rsquo;t grow naturally at regular intervals, but there&rsquo;s natural beauty inherent in the randomness.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Then a scientist joins him on stage and replaces his score with something new: page after page of the same note. This brings us to <em>Part B) Plastic Talking.</em> This second movement is a complete contrast to the first, repeated notes at regular intervals, with very few irregularities - for the most part it&rsquo;s just one note that repeats over and over.&nbsp;</p>
<p>It&rsquo;s a simple but powerful metaphor. Plastics, at the molecular level, are repetitive chains&mdash;long sequences of identical chemical units. This is what makes them so functional, but also why they don&rsquo;t evolve or degrade naturally. The pianist&rsquo;s monotonous playing reflects a uniformity that feels so unnatural that it is nearly <em>anti</em>-natural. It&rsquo;s reminiscent of not only plastic molecules, but also of the virgin plastic production process, with repetitive mass manufacture, and of the plastic recycling problem, with plastics looming ominously in the environment without an end in sight.&nbsp;</p>
<p>As the performance continues in <em>Part C) Technology Working</em>, the pianist begins to change the score&mdash;to improvise, to reintroduce variation. This is the familiar Plastic Talking movement interspersed with high-pitched, jarring chord hits in the right hand, that literally cuts up plastic molecules. With each splice, the monotonous note changes pitch, adding more notes and more chords, symbolizing Hydrochemolytic&trade; Technology (HCT) - an advanced plastics recycling solution developed by Aduro - in action.</p>
